Smyrna High tallied three goals in each half as the Eagles posted a 6-0 victory over Red Lion Christian in nonconference field hockey on Saturday.
Freshman Alexis Moore had two goals and a pair of assists for Smyrna (2-1-1) while freshman Jessica Bergold also scored twice.
The Eagles’ other goals came from Julie Snow (1 assist) and Madeline Wilber. Smyrna finished with advantages of 15-0 in shots and 12-1 in corners.
Volleyball
St. Thomas More 3, Tri-State Christian, Md. 0: The Ravens improved to 2-0 with the 25-3, 25-7, 25-8 victory.
Gillian Crawford led St. Thomas More with 16 assists while Sarah Reeves tallied 10 aces in the win.
Woodbridge 3, Del. Public Safety & Security 1: The Raiders bounced back from a first-set loss to win the match, 22-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-15.
Indian River 3, Sussex Academy 0: The Indians picked up a 25-19, 25-14, 25-20 victory on Friday night.
Pacing IR were Carly Collins (2 kills, 7 aces) and Julia Bomhardt (3 aces, 1 block, 1 dig).
The Seahawks were led by Bailey Hesson (3 kills, 8 digs, 6 assists), Searra Pollitt (3 kills, 4 blocks, 5 assists) and Courtney Sneller (12 digs).
Boys’ soccer
Peddie School, N.J. 3, Cape Henlopen 2: Richard Carey and Zach Gelof scored second-half goals but the Vikings couldn’t overcome a 3-0 deficit.
College soccer
MEN, Wesley 4, Cairn 0: The Wolverines improved to 2-2-2 with the shutout win.
Matt Waldron scored twice with Danny Garza and Will Mileski adding the other two goals for Wesley.
Delaware 2, William & Mary 1: The Blue Hens edged the Tribe in double overtime on Saturday night to improve to 6-1.
Both teams were receiving votes in the national rankings.
College volleyball
Wesley 3, Goucher 0: Tionne Graves-Brown finished with a double-double registering 12 kills and 13 digs to pace the Wolverines (5-3) to the 27-25, 25-18, 25-18 win.
Lindsay Burg finished with 17 assists while Beth Schlecker dished off 10. Burg also led the team with three solo blocks.
The Wolverines will host John Jay and Washington Adventist in a tri-match today in Wentworth Gym beginning at 1 p.m.
Delaware 3, Duquesne 2: The Blue Hens won their second consecutive five-set thriller by defeating Duquesne 20-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-16, 15-7 on Saturday afternoon at the Carpenter Center.
Maria Bellinger slammed a career-high 15 kills for the second straight match for the Blue Hens (6-5), while Alexa Swann added 11 kills and a career-best 10 blocks. Autumn Jenkins notched her second consecutive double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs, while Julia Anderson handed out 33 assists and Taylor Hollingsworth made a match-high 23 digs.
The Hens did not trail during the final two sets, easily taking the fourth set before jumping out to a 6-3 lead in the fifth. Duquesne won three straight points to pull even, but Delaware countered by taking nine of the final 10 points to put the match away.
College golf
UD women defend Rutgers title: The Delaware women’s golf team opened its fall season this weekend by winning the Rutgers Invitational team title for the second consecutive year, as the Blue Hens posted a dominating 15-shot victory at the tournament.
Delaware, which carded rounds of 313 and 298 on Friday, fired a 308 score on Saturday to finish with a three-round total of 919 and finish first among the 12 teams at the invitational. The host Scarlet Knights placed second with a 934 score, followed by St. John’s at 937, Sacred Heart at 942 and Albany at 943.
Blue Hen freshman Ariane Klotz, playing as an individual, recorded a seven over par 79 during her final round on the par 72, 6,043-yard Rutgers Golf Course to tie for fourth place during her UD debut with an 11 over par 75-73-79-227.
