Kent County’s District I all-stars begin play in the Big League baseball World Series this afternoon.
The U.S. East champions are slated to face the U.S. West, from Kihei Little League, as 12:30 p.m. in Easley, S.C.
It is the opening game of the championship tournament in Little League’s division for 16-18 year olds.
District I is one of six U.S. squads in the tourney while there are five teams in the international bracket.
The winner of the District I-U.S. West game will play again on Wednesday at 4 p.m. against the U.S. Central, from Michigan. The loser plays on Thursday at 4 p.m.
District I finished 2-2 in last year’s Big League World Series.
Junior League
Camden-Wyoming 14, Lower Sussex 12: Camden-Wyoming held off Lower Sussex on Monday night to force a second game for the state crown.
The two squads meet again today at Dover at 7 p.m. to decide the state title. The winner earns a spot in the Eastern Regional in Freehold, N.J.
Nathan Jopp, Ethan Harvey, Austin Russell, Nathan Bailey and Nick Sipe all pitched for Camden-Wyoming in Monday’s victory. Camden-Wyoming had four doubles which accounted for nine RBI in the game.
American Legion
Fox Post-2 10, R.C. DuPont Post-18 9: Kendall Small singled home Miquel Rivera with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as Fox Post 2 stayed alive in the state tournament on Monday.
The victory puts Fox Post 2 in today’s semifinals where it will play Middletown Post 25 at 3:30 p,m, at Wilson Field in New Castle. Delaware Post 1 faces Stahl Post 30 at 11 a.m.
In a back-and-forth contest, R.C. DuPont scored five runs in the second only to have Fox Post 2 answer with six runs in the fourth. Fox Post 2 then went up 9-6 before R.C. DuPont eventually sent the game into extra innings with a run in the top of the ninth.
Fox Post 2’s 13-hit attack was paced by Small (3 hits, 2 RBI), Rivera (2 hits, 1 run), Carter Chasanov (2 hits, 1 RBI) and Sean Quirk (2 hits, 2 RBI). Sean Hanhauser and Andrew Mace also had two RBI.
Rivera was the winning pitcher, allowing only one run and two hits in 2.3 innings.

Junior League
New Jersey 10, Camden-Wyoming 3: The Delaware state champions dropped to 1-3 in the Eastern Regional with the loss on Monday in West Haven, Conn.
Camden-Wyoming faces a must-win game today at 9 a.m. when it takes on the host squad.
Jada Courtney had two hits, including a two-run homer, in Monday’s game while Grace Tuxward had a pair of doubles and Peyton Force also had a pair of hits. Elise Roscoe pitched all seven innings.
9-10 tournament
Laurel 7, Camden-Wyoming 2: The District III champions forced a second game for the state title with the win on Monday.
The two teams will play again today at Dover at 7 p.m. with the winner advancing to the Eastern Regional in Fleetwood, Pa.
Major League
Canal 6, Pennsylvania 3: The Delaware sttae champions improved to 3-0 in the Eastern Regional with the win on Monday.
Canal scored four runs in the third while Hannah Chambers had three RBI in the game.
Local auto racing
Del. International cancels races again: For the second straight week, Delaware International Speedway had to cancel its weekly races on Saturday night because of extreme heat.
This past Saturday, a heat index of over 115 degrees forced the cancellation. Action ata the Delmar track is expected to resume next Saturday.
Seaford driver wins at U.S. 13: While everyone was trying to figure out how to beat the heat, a pair of veteran racers were trying to figure out how to beat each other Friday night at U.S. 13 Dragway.
Bill Groton of Seaford and Salisbury, Md.’s Frank Lecates have faced each other dozens of times over the years. Once again they found themselves side by side in the Top ET final.
The pair didn’t disappoint as Groton’s four one-thousandths of a second advantage at the start was enough to get him to the finish line a bumper ahead of Lecates for the win. Groton had a .017 reaction time and ran a 10.327/130.28 on a 10.32 dial while Lecates had a .021 reaction and ran an 8.193/158.22 on an 8.19 dial.
Daryl Beauchamp of Princess Anne, Md. posted his second consecutive win in Mod ET while Dale Hamilton of Mount Airy, Md. rode to the win in Pro Bike. Other winners on the day included: Michael Jefferson of Parsonsburg, Md. in Street; Joe Serro of Millsboro in Hot Rod; Keith Riddle of Millsboro in Jr. Dragster 1 and Brett Holston of Felton in Jr. Dragster 2.
