DOVER — Majority Leader Sen. David McBride, D-Wilmington Manor, announced Thursday he will run for another term.
He has represented the 13th Senatorial District since 1980 and has served as majority leader since 2012.

“Representing the 13th District in the Senate is a tremendous honor, but it’s also a responsibility I take very seriously,” he said in a statement. “I serve a diverse district with a proud, working-class heritage and impressive levels of civic engagement. My job is to continue to make government work for the people I represent, enhance their quality of life and make sure they feel connected to the critical public services on which they rely.”
In the Senate, he has focused many of his efforts on environmental and health concerns, such as banning indoor smoking and promoting statewide recycling.
He announced in December he was undergoing treatment for colorectal cancer.
One of the longest-serving lawmakers in Delaware history, Sen. McBride was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1978. He does not currently have an opponent in the 2016 election.
