Homecoming week events planned at DSU

Delaware State University launched the reign of the 2015-16 Mr. and Miss DSU with the crowning of Aiah Senesie and Donametria Stallings during an Oct. 18 Coronation Ceremony. Mr. Senesie is the first-ever native-born African to be named as Mr. DSU. Mr. Senesie, nicknamed The Trendsetter, is a native of Sierra Leone. He is a senior English major with a minor in political science. He is planning to continue his education in law school and then become an international attorney. Ms. Stallings, who goes by the nickname “Tria,” is a native of Newark. She is a senior political science major and plans to pursue a master’s degree in either political science or women’s studies. DOVER — Homecoming week at Delaware State University continues with a number of public events planned at the university’s main campus.

The NPHC Step Show “Greek Pandemonium” will be held Thursday at Memorial Hall Gym. Doors open at 7 p.m. for the 8 p.m. show. Admission is $20, $15 for DSU students; $10 for children younger than 10.

On Friday, ground will be broken for the Dr. Jerome Holland statue. Dr. Holland was the sixth president and is considered to be the most pivotal president in the institution’s history during his 1953 to 1960 tenure. Under his leadership the college was pulled from the brink of institutional extinction and onto firm footing as an accredited historic black college-university. It will be held at 1 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Student Center.

Second Homecoming Annual Alumni & Friends Arts Fair will feature alumni artists and live music. It’s 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Martin Luther King Student Center, first floor lobby. Anthony Liggins, nationally renowned abstract expressionist artist and DSU alumnus will be the featured artist.

Also on Friday, the DSU Alumni Association Legacy Mixer and Dance will be held from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the Martin Luther Student Center Parlors. Cost is $20; for tickets go to www.desu.edu/event/homecoming-2015

The Homecoming Concert on Friday will feature Meek Mill and Future. Doors at the Memorial Hall Gym open at 8:30 p.m. Admission is DSU students $55; general price $65 (with college ID).

Saturday’s event begin with the Alumni Welcome Home Breakfast 8:30 to 10 a.m. in Conrad Hall. For tickets, visit www.desu.edu/event/homecoming-2015.

A 9:30 a.m. transportation shuttle to the DSU Parade will be provided for alumni who would like to attend the parade after breakfast. The shuttle will return alumni participants to campus after the parade.

Step off time for the Homecoming Parade in downtown Dover is 10 a.m.

Game time at Alumni Stadium is 2 p.m. when the Hornets will take on South Carolina State.

The Alumni Tent will be set up near the main campus entrance and be open from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday.
