Police: Weapons, drugs found in Dover traffic stop

DOVER — Two arrests were made on Oct. 6 after a 9mm handgun and 19.9 grams of marijuana were allegedly located during a traffic stop, police said in a news release on Tuesday.

Dover Police Department reported that city residents Lewis Harrell, 24, of the unit block of Stevenson Drive, and Nyraina Walker, 20, of the unit block of South New Street, were each charged after being contacted by officers in the area of West Division Street and North Queen Street at approximately 5:55 p.m.

Police alleged that Mr. Harrell was in possession of a 9-mm handgun.

He was charged with no valid license, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession with intent to deliver, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and second-degree conspiracy.

He was released on $13,800 unsecured bond.

Ms. Walker was charged with possession with intent to deliver, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and second-degree conspiracy.

She was released on $6,250 unsecured bond.

Police said the located firearm was stored as evidence. The reason for the initial traffic stop was not disclosed.

While incidents where guns are discovered during a routine traffic stop are not a high percentage, Cpl. Hoffman said, “it is becoming more frequent than in recent memory.”
