GEORGETOWN — A Bridgeville man whose kidnapping conviction was vacated by the Delaware Supreme Court last month is now facing other felony charges connected to the alleged incident, the Delaware Department of Justice said.

On Aug. 24, Rondaiges A. Harper was indicted on first-degree unlawful imprisonment and second-degree conspiracy counts regarding the 2013 abduction of an 89-year-old Lincoln woman.
A few days earlier, Mr. Harper was absolved of kidnapping when the Supreme Court ruled he was not part of a carjacking that preceded it. Mr. Harper was 17 when arrested on March 20, 2013.
Mr. Harper was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court and released on $5,000 unsecured bond.
A case review was scheduled for Oct. 5.
When nullifying a kidnapping and second-degree conspiracy conviction against Mr. Harper, the Supreme Court cited the “language and history of Delaware’s carjacking statute, that the crime of carjacking is not a continuing crime but completed at the point when all the elements of the crime have been satisfied.”
Mr. Harper served 2½ years in prison before his release in August. Three other persons involved with the abduction pleaded guilty to several offenses and are serving lengthy jail terms, the Supreme Court confirmed when announcing Mr. Harper’s vacated conviction.
