Two charged with attempted murder in Dover shooting

DOVER — Two Dover men have been charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting a 20-year-old twice in a period of two hours on Friday, according to Dover Police.

Johnson Joseph, 19, and Alex Joseph, 22, both of Freedom Drive, Dover, have been charged with first-degree attempted murder and first-degree conspiracy.

Alex Joseph also has been charged with possession of a firearm during commission of felony, second-degree assault and first-degree reckless endangering.

Dover Police said at about 9:28 p.m. Friday, the department received a 9-1-1 call for a report of shots fired in The Hamlet community. Responding officers found no evidence at the time of shots being fired and no victims were reported. Then, at 11:12 p.m. officers responded to Whatcoat Apartments on Walker Road for a reported shooting and discovered a 20-year-old victim shot in the chest.

Police said they learned the victim was shot and suffered a graze wound to the leg in the earlier shots-fired call in The Hamlet, which occurred on Old Forge Drive. Detectives determined Alex Joseph and Johnson Joseph were suspects, police said.

Dover Police, assisted by the Smyrna Police Department, executed a search warrant at the suspects’ residence in the unit block of Freedom Drive in Dover. Both were arrested without incident, and detectives allegedly located the gun believed to have been used in the shooting of the 20-year-old victim.

Despite the arrests, Dover Police said the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the department at (302) 736-7111. Callers may remain anonymous. Tips also can be submitted at Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333, at www.tipsubmit.com or through Dover Police’s MyPD mobile app.
