DOVER— As the summer comes to an end, people hope to enjoy its last days during Labor Day weekend.
AAA Travel projects 35.5 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more from home during the holiday weekend, the highest travel volume for the holiday since 2008.
Locally, 169,000 Delawareans plan to celebrate the holiday with a final trip before summer comes to a close, with 87 percent going by car.
The Delaware Department of Transportation will suspend planned lane closures on Delaware’s major roadways beginning at noon today and ending at midnight on Monday.
DelDOT’s Transportation Management Center monitors and adjusts traffic signals for heavy congestion or incidents.

Motorists can also expect lane closures and potential back-ups for the following planned special events in September.
•The Amish Country Bike Tour in Dover on Sept. 12 will have several hundred cyclists leaving Legislative Mall in Dover and riding various roadways in Kent County with a return trip to Legislative Mall.
•The Tour De Sussex on Sept.19 will have cyclists leaving Delaware Technical Community College-Owens Campus in Georgetown.
•The Pedal Away Prostate Cancer Bike Race and Delaware Senior Olympics Road Race on Sept. 19 will have cyclists leaving form Eden Hill Medical Center in Dover.
•The Special Olympics Truck Convoy on Sept. 26 will depart the Delaware State. The convoy will be escorted by law enforcement officers on a 28-mile route through scenic Southern Delaware.
•The Magnolia Town Heritage Day on Sept. 26 will take place with a 5k race.
•Bike MS: Bike to the Bay 2015 on Sept. 26 and Sept. 27 will begin from Delaware Technical Community College, Scarborough Road in Dover to The Towers at Seashore State Park, Dewey Beach. On Sept. 27, cyclists will leave Seashore State Park and return to Scarborough Road in Dover.
