DOVER — Firefly Music Festival’s Sunday schedules will go on as planned and two acts will make up shows today.
With severe storms bearing down on the Firefly Music Festival Saturday night, organizers evacuated the Woodlands and sent fans to their cars and shelter.
The evacuation cut short the performance of Kid Cudi and wiped out headliner Kings of Leon’s performance.
Kings of Leon and its entourage apparently left Dover after the announcement.
On Sunday morning, Firefly posted a message to fans on Facebook. It read, “We’re pleased to say that, along with all of today’s originally scheduled shows, Steve Aoki and The Chainsmokers will be joining! … Steve Aoki and The Chainsmokers were the only artists that were able to reschedule. See you in the Woodlands in a couple of hours.”
A Firefly representative interrupted Kid Cudi’s performance about 9:50 p.m. Saturday and asked for festival goers to leave the grounds. Additionally, it posted alerts on social media. Firefly posted this on Twitter: “Severe weather is heading our way. If at The Woodlands, clear the festival grounds, head towards the exit & seek shelter in your vehicles.”
In another message, Firefly organizers organized campers to take down their tents, poles and canopies.
Today’s forecast calls for a hot day. The National Weather Service said it will be sunny with a high near 94 and heat index values as high as 101. Chance of rain is 40 percent today.
The weather service said there is a slight chance of thunderstorms tonight.
