DOVER — Another shooting incident on South New Street — the first block’s fourth in a month — left two men wounded early Friday morning, police said.

The men, ages 32 and 27, were suffering from non-life threatening wounds when dropped off at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital at approximately 1:49 a.m., according to Dover Police. The victims told police the location of the shooting, but gave no further information, authorities said.

The men arrived in separate vehicles. One was shot in the abdomen, the other twice in his lower extremities and once in the forearm, police said.

Police said investigation was ongoing and asked anyone with information to call 736-7130. Callers may remain anonymous. It was the fourth shooting incident in the close downtown vicinity since Nov. 11. Also, a 7-11 convenience store at 449 S. New Street was robbed of cash on Nov. 19.

On Nov. 28, two unoccupied vehicles were struck by gunfire multiple times before an unknown suspect or suspects fled. No injuries were reported.

On Nov. 23, an unknown suspect asked a 54-year-old man “Where’s the stuff?” before firing two to three shots into a floor at Kent Apartments at 30 S. New Street. The suspect, described as a black male by the victim first knocked on a residential door, and later fled in an unknown direction, police said.

On Nov. 11, an unknown black male suspect fired two shots into the front door of a first block residence and fled with cash after pointing a handgun at a 29-year-old woman at approximately 8:33 p.m., police said

Earlier, authorities described witness cooperation as “minimal” during the other investigations. Increased patrols, especially by the Street Crimes Unit, followed, police said.

While police said there was no specific connection determined between the earlier incidents, they likely involved drug activity of some sort.

A reported armed robbery in the area of South New and Reed streets on Oct. 6 brought the arrest of an 18-year-old Dover man later in the day, police said at the time. A gunshot hit a 48-year-old man’s bag after he dropped money when confronted at approximately 2:15 a.m. and attempted to walk away, according to authorities.

A 22-year-old Milford man – Rondree Campbell – was charged with first-degree murder after a 36-year-old Middletown man was shot to death on New Street on Nov. 1, 2015, police said.

On Sept. 1, 2015, a fleeing suspect – Terrance Fletcher, 21, – was shot once by a pursuing officer after first contact in the 100 block of South New Street, followed by a run through an alleyway. Fletcher was wounded in the leg and the Delaware Department of Justice Office of Civil Rights and Public Trust cleared the officer of any wrongdoing.
