DOVER — A 23-year-old Camden man is facing at least nine years in prison after manslaughter and rape guilty pleas in two cases against him on Monday morning.
Darryl M. Garner will be sentenced on Feb. 14, 2017, in Kent County Superior Court, and could receive a maximum of 100 years incarceration.
Garner took responsibility for the shooting death of Jordan Peck, 18, on Jan. 25, 2015, before Judge Robert B. Young. According to police, the late Mr. Peck was shot twice in the upper torso and head during a pre-arranged meeting near railroad tracks between Walker Road and Division Street in Dover.
Garner was convicted of manslaughter and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony in the case, along with two counts of third-degree rape in a separate matter from August 2014.
Deputy Attorney General Kathy Dickerson prosecuted the case, with attorney Adam Windett representing the defendant.
• A 52-year-old Camden man is facing at least three years in prison and up to 30 after pleading guilty to first-degree robbery and aggravated menacing on Monday morning.
Alfred L. Robinson’s fate will be determined during sentencing on Fe. 16, 2017, in Kent County Superior Court. He was connected to a Dec. 24, 2015, incident at a Waffle House and Shore stop on Dec. 8, 2015, both on U.S. 13 in Camden.
Judge Young ordered Robinson to pay $500 restitution to Waffle House, and $32 to the Shore Stop.
All other charges were not prosecuted. DAG Lindsay Taylor prosecuted the case, with attorney Anthony Capone representing Robinson.
• An initial case review for a Milton man charged after a fatal crash last summer is scheduled for Jan. 31, 2017.
Zachary M. Krytzer, 28, was charged with manslaughter and DUI of drugs after a vehicle he was driving struck a 41-year-old Verizon employee on the shoulder of Del. 1 on June 7.
According to authorities, Heath B. Janssen, of Dover, was standing behind his work truck when hit at approximately 1:55 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mr. Krytzer was initially admitted to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and charged by police two days later. He was indicted on Sept. 12.
“We believe we have received all discovery from the state,” defense attorney Jim Liguori said on Monday morning .
• Vontaye Gilbert, of Chestertown, Md., will remain incarcerated as a new defense counsel is appointed regarding alleged robberies.
Citing a conflict of interest, defense counsel Andre’ Beauregard withdrew from the case. A final case review is scheduled for Feb. 1, followed by trial Feb. 6.
Speaking before Judge Young, Mr. Gilbert said “I’ve been sitting in there since January. I’m tired of sitting in there.
“Every time I come back in it keeps getting pushed back, it keeps getting pushed back.”
Deputy Attorney General Marie Graham pointed to “extensive, exhaustive plea negotiations, one which was rejected.”
Mr. Gilbert is facing three first-degree robbery charges, including on involving an incident at Little Caesar’s Restaurant in Smyrna on Jan. 7, according to police. Three wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony and aggravated menacing charges were also indicted, along with a theft greater than $1,500 count.
Four trial dates were previously scheduled.
• A plea by appointment was scheduled for Morris E. Savage, 23, of Dover, on felony drug and weapon charges connected to a traffic stop at Del. 8 and Saulsbury Road in Dover on Feb. 2.
Mr. Savage was indicted on April 4 and facing charges of drug dealing, receiving a stolen firearm, possession of firearm/ammunition by person prohibited (two counts), possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and Tier 1 drug possession.
DAG Greg Babowal is representing the state, with attorney John Malik defending Mr. Savage.
• Thomas J. Gordon, 29, of Felton, is scheduled for trial today on felony drug and weapons charges after an alleged incident on March 22. He was originally scheduled for Court on Monday, but was not transported by the Delaware Department of Correction.
On June 6, Mr. Gordon was indicted on two counts each of possession of a firearm/ammunition by person prohibited and offensive touching of a law enforcement officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, and receiving a stolen firearm.
Mr. Gordon is representing himself in court. DAG Taylor is prosecuting for the state.
