DOVER — Both the state troopers’ and teachers’ unions have made their endorsements for the 2016 election.
The Delaware State Education Association is supporting Democrats in the four statewide races and mostly, although not exclusively, Democrats in legislative races.
The group has endorsed 28 Democrats and eight Republicans seeking General Assembly seats. Not every race has an endorsed candidate.
Three of the four Democrats seeking statewide office are backed by the Delaware State Troopers Association. The DSTA is supporting John Carney for governor, Bethany Hall-Long for lieutenant governor and Trinidad Navarro for insurance commissioner. It did not weigh in on the race between Lisa Blunt Rochester and Hans Reigle for Congress.
It has endorsed 42 legislative candidates, 14 of whom are Republicans.
Just five of the DSTA’s endorsed candidates and two of the DSEA’s are non-incumbents.
Meanwhile, the National Rifle Association’s political committee is endorsing Mr. Reigle for Congress and Colin Bonini for governor. Both men are Republicans.
In the state Senate, the group is backing five Republicans and one Democrat. Fourteen House Republicans and four House Democrats have received its endorsement as well.
Money
As of Monday, Republican gubernatorial nominee Mr. Boini had $70,000 on hand to spend over the final days before the election, according to updated information submitted to the Department of Elections.
The Republican nominee raised $23,500 from Oct. 10 to Oct. 31. He has loaned himself $60,000 since last year.
Democratic insurance commissioner candidate Mr. Navarro pulled in $37,700 over a three-week period last month, giving him $31,000 in available cash. In comparison, Republican nominee Jeff Cragg raised $4,300, with $1,700 remaining.
La Mar Gunn, the GOP’s nominee for lieutenant governor, received $3,900 in contributions, leaving him with $10,500.
Finance information for the Democratic nominees for governor and lieutenant governor was not immediately available, but both had several times more than their opponents in reports filed last month.
Mock election
Delaware students participating in a mock election gave Gary Johnson the state’s three electoral votes Wednesday.
Forty-seven Delaware students took part in the EveryKidVotes! election, with a plurality going for the Libertarian Party nominee over Democrat Hillary Clinton. Mr. Johnson received 20 votes, while Mrs. Clinton earned 18. Republican Donald Trump was supported by five students.
More than 700,000 students participated nationwide, with Mrs. Clinton winning.
The results of a statewide mock election will be unveiled Friday.
