DOVER — Authorities made felony drunken driving arrests on three consecutive days recently, according to court papers.
The stretch began Saturday when Frederick J. Douglas Jr., 44, of the 1800 block of South State Street in Dover, was charged with third offense DUI of alcohol and a traffic violation.
On Sunday, Marshall Robertson, 54, of the 500 block of Shady Bridge Road in Marydel, was charged with third offense DUI of alcohol and resisting arrest.
A $3,500 secured bond was ordered in Justice of the Peace Court.
Ralph J. Cahall III, 56, of the 14000 block of Staytonville Road in Greenwood, was charged with a fourth offense DUI of alcohol and a failure to signal traffic violation on Monday.
According to Wyoming Police in a probable cause affidavit, Mr. Robertson was stopped at 1:26 a.m. on Westville Road in Wyoming.
Police alleged he said he drank two beers at a tavern and an officer “could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his mouth.”
A DUI investigation ensued, police said, and Mr. Robertson allegedly failed pre-exit field tests.
He then staggered into the roadway after exiting his vehicle, police said, and said he could not perform two of the three field tests due to physical problems.
According to authorities, Mr. Robertson failed a portable breath test.
In the affidavit, an officer alleged Mr. Robertson “tensed up” and “pulled away” from police during an arrest attempt and he was forced to the ground while continuing “to attempt to prevent his hands from being placed behind his back.
“Additional units arrived on scene where Robertson was eventually placed into custody.”
Mr. Robertson was transported to Delaware State Police Troop 3 where an intoxilyzer test was administered.
Police said Mr. Robertson had previous DUI convictions in 1988 and 2000, both in Kent County.
