When all this started, it seemed like a big accomplishment just for Joe Callahan to get signed by NFL team.

But on Saturday the former Wesley College quarterback went well beyond that, earning a coveted spot on the Green Bay Packers; 53-man roster.
An undrafted free agent, the 6-foot-1, 216-pound Callahan was impressive in preseason, completing 54-of-88 passes for 499 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions in four games.
“The entire program is very happy for Joe,” said Wesley coach Mike Drass. “We’re so proud of his amazing accomplishment.”
Callahan goes into the regular season as Green Bay’s third-string QB behind Aaron Rodgers and Brett Hundley. The Packers released their fourth quarterback, Marquise Williams, from North Carolina.
The news wasn’t as good for Dover High’s Trip Thurman (Bengals) or Delmar’s Alex Ellis (Titans), who were both released on Saturday.

WOMEN, Delaware State 2, Wagner 0: The Hornets gave new head coach Kortney Rhoades her first career win with the victory on Friday evening.
Sophomores Kayleigh Leschinski and Samantha Bahr scored second-period goals, and Michele Lammers recorded eight saves for her sixth career shutout to highlight the Hornet win.
Lammers was brilliant in the net, recording five saves in the first period. Wagner outshot the Hornets 9-6 in the opening period.
Lammers added three more saves in the second period to keep the Seahawks off the board. Wagner outshot the Hornets 18-12 in the contest.
Wesley 7, Cairn 0: Freshman Aleya Cummings, a Caesar Rodney High grad, netted four goals to pace the Wolverines (1-1) to their first win of the season on Saturday.
Janiah Moore (CR), Antonia Pote, and Summer Stone all added a goal and assist for Wesley while Aline Check and Katie Ford (Dover) each passed for a pair of assists. The Wolverines scored six second-half goals.
Princeton 2, Delaware 1: The Tigers scored with just five seconds left in regulation and then tallied the game-winner two minutes into the second overtime period to escape with the win on Friday night.
For the winless Blue Hens (0-5), it was their second heartbreaking loss in a week. Last Sunday, Delaware fell to Saint Joseph’s 2-1 in overtime when the Hawks scored with just 28 seconds left in the extra frame.
Delaware broke the scoreless stalemate when junior midfielder Krista Trinidad took a feed from All-Colonial Athletic Association forward Natalie Zelenky and scored with 5:06 left in regulation. Zelenky had dribbled to her right and sent a pass back to her left to Trinidad, who scored from 12 yards out on the left side.
MEN, Wesley 0, Eastern Mennonite 0: Goalie Kyle Springsteen made a pair of saves, including a saved penalty kick in the 104th minute, as the Wolverines played to the tie.
Wesley (1-0-1) pressured the entire first half, notching 15 shots including seven on goal in the first 45 minutes. Eastern Mennonite had just five attempts, with only one on goal.
Wesley played a man down for the final seven minutes of regulation and both overtime periods after being issued a red card in the 84th minute.
Delaware 1, Lehigh 0: The Blue Hens needed just one goal Friday evening as they posted their third straight shutout in the win.
Senior Ben Sampson collected the lone tally of the night with his seventh career goal. In the 43rd minute, Sampson collected the ball from junior Carlos Perales off the corner kick and headed in the game-winner, which deflected off a Lehigh defender.
Sophomore goalie Todd Morton had two saves.
College field hockey
Old Dominion 3, Delaware 2: A goal from freshman Alexis Gazzio with time winding down forced overtime Friday evening, but No. 20 Old Dominion was able to score in overtime to edge the No. 14 Blue Hens.
Delaware (2-1) trailed 2-0 in the 54th minute before sophomore Kiki Bink put in a penalty corner shot for her first goal of the season. Seniors Marjelle Scheffers and Maura Zarkoski assisted on the play.
It was perfect timing for Gazzio and her first career goal with 53 seconds remaining in regulation as the midfielder tapped it past the goalie from the right side.
College volleyball
VCU 3, Delaware 1: The Blue Hen s rallied to win the third set, but UD’s fourth-set comeback attempt fell just short in the loss at the FGCU Hilton Garden Inn Invitational.
The Rams (2-3) captured the match by set scores of 25-14, 25-17, 27-29, 25-23. Delaware (4-2) dropped its second consecutive match.
Blue Hen junior Corey Perkins led the Blue Hens with a career-high 13 kills, while Autumn Jenkins notched her second double-double of the season with 11 kills and 16 digs. Alexa Swann swatted eight kills while Maria Bellinger added seven for Delaware, while Taylor Hollingsworth made a team-leading 18 digs and Julia Hayes recorded five blocks.
