DOVER –– After starting a baking business from home in 2011, Tiffanee Lee-Scott, owner of Tiffanee & Co. Bakery, will be seen by the nation on tonight’s episode of “Cake Wars” on the Food Network.
“I was just watching an episode one night in January and thought, ‘I can do that,’ so I applied online and got a call back three days later,” Ms. Lee-Scott said.
She soon recorded a test video about why she wanted to be on the show and in March, she boarded a plane to Los Angeles where the episode was shot over two days.

“For the competition I was against three other bakery owners from New York, Utah and Canada,” she said. “It was nerve wracking but everyone was really nice and it was cool to meet people who are into the same thing you are.”
Ms. Lee-Scott has had an interest in both art and baking since childhood but pursued a career in phlebotomy before dabbling in professional baking.
She started slow at first, fulfilling small orders out of her home before deciding to open a bakery of her own which family helped her get off the ground.
Tiffanee & Co. at 147 S. Governors Ave. opened in October 2014 and specializes in custom cakes, cookies and cupcakes all baked fresh daily.
For her cakes and cupcakes, she starts with choosing a flavor cake which can range anywhere from vanilla to strawberry margarita before decorating using fondant and icing to produce original and requested designs from emojis to Super Mario characters.
The decoration portion alone usually takes about an hour or two –– and her decorating experience was important on the show because the winner is chosen from the three contestants who make it into the final decoration round. The winner of the entire competition wins $10,000.

The hardest part of being on the show has been keeping it a secret. Since being notified in January, Ms. Lee-Scott was prohibited from even letting anyone know she’d recorded an episode until two weeks ago and even since then, the details she’s been allowed to give out are few.
But she could divulge was that the challenge involved making a cake standing three feet tall that needed to involve the video game “Halo.”
“It was kind of a perfect challenge for me,” she said. “I love video games and play them a lot and Halo is a game I’m really familiar with.”
As for what the final product looked like and where Ms. Lee-Scott wound up after judging, viewers will have to wait until the episode airs tonight to see.
“So far I’m only planning on watching it with my sister but I guess things could change,” she said. “But I’ll definitely be recording it so I’ll have a copy of it for myself.”
