EASLEY, S.C. — It took three games but the District I Big League baseball all-stars finally got their offense on track Saturday.
After scoring a combined three runs in its first two games, the Kent County squad erupted for a 14-4 victory over Canada in its Big League World Series finale.
District I, which went 1-2 in the tournament, collected 12 hits in the contest, which was stopped after six innings because of the 10-run rule.
Trailing 4-3, District I took control with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. District I ended up scoring the final nine runs of the game.
Felton-Harrington’s Tyler Collins led the way, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored with Dover’s Dallas Willey also driving in four runs. Collins hit District I’s first homerun of the tourney.
Also pacing District I were Milford’s Tommy Jordan (2-for-5, 2 runs, 1 RBI) and Felton-Harrington’s Eric Berardicelli (1-for-3, 2 runs, 1 RBI). Nine different players had a hit for District I with 10 players scoring a run.
Winning pitcher Cameron Turner, Jared Hickox and Louis Whitaker combined to throw a seven-hitter with six strikeouts and only one walk.
Collins had a two-run double to spark District I’s seven-run fourth. He then hit a two-run homer in the fifth to stretch District I’s lead to 12-4.
With District I leading 13-4, Dover’s Semaj Kelly led off the sixth with a double before scoring on an RBI double from Jordan to end the game.
In the first, Willey drove in two of his runs to spark a three-run inning.
Canada finished 0-3 in the World Series. District I, making its second straight appearance as the U.S. East champion, has now gone 3-4 in the last two World Series.
