EASLEY, S.C. — District I really had only bad inning on Thursday.
Unfortunately for the Kent County squad, that was more than enough to send them to a second straight loss in the Big League baseball World Series.
The host South Carolina squad scored eight runs in the second inning and turned the outburst into a 10-1 victory over District I.
The loss dropped District I to 0-2 in the tournament in Little League’s division for 16-18 year-olds. The U.S. East champions will play Canada next on Saturday at 9 a.m.
Four District I pitchers combined to allow 11 hits, six walks and a hit batter. Defensively, District I also committed four errors as only six of the 10 runs it allowed were earned.
But perhaps the toughest part of the second inning for District I is that South Carolina scored all eight of its runs after having two outs with nobody on base.
The host team took advantage of seven hits, two walks and three District I errors in that one inning. South Carolina then added single runs in both the third and fourth.
In a 3-2 tourney-opening loss to Hawaii on Tuesday, District I gave up all three runs in the fifth. So in its 14 total innings in the tournament, District I allowed runs in only four of them.
Offensively on Thursday, District I’s only run came in the bottom of the third. Camden-Wyoming’s Quintin Ivy singled, stole second and scored on a hit from Felton-Harrington’s Tyler Collins.
District I finished with six hits, including two from Ivy. Tommy Jordan, Cole Garey and Jared Hickox added District I’s other hits.

New Jersey 12, Canal 1: New Jersey needed just four innings to post the win and capture the East championship on Thursday in Bristol, Conn.
The title sends the squad from Robbinsville, N.J. to the Major League World Series in Portland, Ore.
Delaware state champion Canal finished with a 4-2 record in the tournament, with both its losses coming against New Jersey. Canal was outhit 12-4 in the finals with New Jersey leading 6-0 after two innings.
