Host Camden-Wyoming rolled to a 25-3 victory over Dover as the District I Major League baseball tournament got underway on Saturday night.
C-W returns to the field today at 5 p.m. when it hosts Milford in the six-team, double-elimination tourney.
In the other first-round Major League game, M.O.T. blanked Smyrna-Clayton, 16-0. M.O.T. will play Felton today at 7:30 p.m. in Camden-Wyoming.
Both Smyrna-Clayton and Dover will play again on Monday in the losers’ bracket at 6 and 8:30 p.m. respectively.
Junior League
Camden-Wyoming 12, M.O.T. 2: Winning pitcher Ryan Rigby struck out seven in five innings as Camde-Wyoming won its opener in the District I tournament.
The victory puts C-W in the winners’ bracket finals today at 7:30 p.m. at Dover Little League.
Reliever Nathan Jopp added three strikeouts for Camden-Wyoming while Bryson Minear (homerun), Wesley Melvin (3 hits, 1 RBI), Jayden Wolford (RBI double) and Nathan Bailey (RBI double) paced C-W’s 11-hit attack.
M.O.T. (1-1), which plays again on Monday at 5 p.m., got a pair of hits, including an RBI double from shortstop Ryan Schetts while Josh Atterian had two hits and an RBI.
9-10 tournament
M.O.T. 22, Smyrna-Clayton 3: Maximus Mullins went 5-for-5 with a homerun, three RBI and four runs scored to pace M.O.T. to the opening win.
Host M.O.T. next faces Camden-Wyoming today at 7:30 p.m.
Also leading the way for the Middletown-area squad were Travis Peden (4-for-5, 4 RBI, 4 runs) and Shaun McDonald (3-for-4, 3 runs).
Smyrna-Clayton plays again on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at M.O.T.
American Legion
Fox Post 2 sweeps Generals: Fox Post 2 collected 22 hits in sweeping the Post 10 Generals, 12-1, 13-6, in an American Legion doubleheader on Saturday.
In the opener, winning pitcher Adrian Hill struck out seven and allowed only three hits in five innings while also going 2-for-4 at the plate.
Quintin Ivy had three strikeouts in one inning of relief to finish out the game.
Garrett Lawson went 3-for-4 with a homer and five RBI while Carter Chasanov had two hits, an RBI and scored twice.
Fox Post 2 broke open the nightcap with six runs in the fifth. Miguel Rivera and Joey Haas had two hits apiece, including a double, winning pitcher Ivy struck out six in five innings and Chasanov pitched two innings of two-hit relief.
Softball
9-10 tournament
M.O.T. 10, Milford 9: Kylie Decker went 3-for-4 with three runs scored in its opener in the District I tourney.
The Middletown-area squad takes on Camden-Wyoming today at Dover at 7:30 p.m.
Haley Grygo pitched all six innings for M.O.T., Chrissy Browski went 2-for-4 and Daphney Sapp went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.
Lilly Settermen pitched for Milford while Avery Mills led the way offensively. Milford plays again on Monday at 8:30 p.m.
Felton-Harrington 18, Dover 1: Tyler Copio (12 strikeouts) and Mackenzie Mitchell combined to throw a five-inning no-hitter as Felton-Harrington posted the win.
Felton-Harrington takes on Smyrna-Clayton Little Lass today at 5 p.m. in Dover.
Leading Felton-Harrington offensively were Tara Minner (4-for-5, 2 runs), Maddie Hurd (4-for-4, 2 runs), Copio (3-for-5, 2 runs), Brie Benton (3-for-3), Mitchell (2-for-4, 2 runs), Sammy Carpenter (2-for-4, 2 runs), and Chloe Roselle (3 runs).
Nijah Johnson-Franklin had four stolen bases with Ava Derrad scoring Dover’s only run.
