DOVER — A Dover man convicted of manslaughter in a July 2014 stabbing death was sentenced to three years in prison earlier this week, officials said this week.

With credit for time already served in prison, Shaquille Bolden should be released from custody in a couple months, according to defense attorney Andre’ Beauregard. Bolden did not contest a manslaughter charge against him, and was sentenced to 25 years, suspended after three, by Superior Court Judge Robert B. Young.

“I believe Mr. Bolden can and will be a person that uses this leniency to get out of jail and make a difference in his community,” Mr. Beauregard said.

“His character is fortified by the Court’s guidance at his sentencing to become a leader so others will not make the same mistakes and help them overcome adversity.“

Earlier, Mr. Beauregard said he sought a mandatory minimum of two years Level V incarceration for his client.

On March 17, co-defendant Kinon Teat, of Felton, was sentenced to four years in prison after a 20-year-old Dover man was stabbed after a large fight in the unit block of South New Street on July 23, 2014. The victim died of his wounds on Aug. 11, 2014 after being admitted to and operated on at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital in Dover.

Dropped charges against the men included possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony (two counts), riot, possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited and second-degree conspiracy.

The day after the stabbing, according to the Delaware State Police, Bolden and Teat turned themselves in at Troop 3 and were then held at James T. Vaughn Correctional Center near Smyrna on secured bond.

Before his arrest, Bolden’s last known address was at the Lake Club Apartments at 400 N. DuPont Highway. Teat lived in the 200 block of South Ember Drive in Felton.
