DOVER — A 26-year-old Wilmington man was arrested Monday for a series of alleged business burglaries and attempts, police said. A second man is also being sought.

According to Dover Police, Larry M. Wilmer, of the 100 block of North DuPont Street, was taken into custody at 2:48 a.m. as patrol officers investigated a store burglary alarm.

Police arrived at the Country Farm Store at 1014 S. Little Creek Road and saw two men trying to pry open the rear door, spokesman Cpl. Mark Hoffman said.

Both men fled when officers appeared — with Mr. Wilmer being apprehended after a short chase, according to authorities. An unknown black male eluded police.

Upon investigation police found similarities in an alleged string of burglaries and attempted burglaries committed between May 16 and Monday, including the time frame they were committed, Cpl. Hoffman said.

Police said burglaries or attempts were made earlier Monday at Betsy Ross Pizza at 1294 Forrest Ave., at 1:05 a.m., and at A.C. Moore at 277 N. DuPont Highway at 2:02 a.m.

Also investigated were burglaries or attempts on May 6 at the East Side Package Store at 1018 S. Little Creek Road on May 16 and at the El Pipil Restaurant at 720 N. DuPont Highway on July 1, authorities said.

According to police, cash was taken during the alleged incidents.

Mr. Wilmer was charged with wearing a disguise during commission of a felony, third-degree burglary (three counts), third-degree attempted burglary (two counts), possession of burglar tools, theft under $1,500 (two counts), resisting arrest, and criminal mischief (five counts).

Mr. Wilmer was held at James T. Vaughn Correctional Center near Smyrna and held on $9,250 secured bond.
