For the seventh consecutive year, local celebrities and socialites paired with experienced dancers, taking the stage to raise money for programs benefiting children and their parents.
This year’s dance-off, which featured 10 couples, benefited Mom’s House and the Greater Dover Boys & Girls Club.
Mom’s House is a service that provides free childcare to single parents furthering their education. The program offers a 3-to-1 child to caregiver ratio.
This was the first year Dancing with the Delaware Stars partnered with the Greater Dover Boys & Girls Club
Each team raised funds for the event and tried to invite as many people as possible, not only to donate to Mom’s House and the Boys & Girls Club but to hopefully earn more votes.
Attendees got to vote for the couple they think had the best performance. Ten votes came with the admission ticket and additional votes were $1 each or 25 for $20.
Almost 1,000 people attended this year’s contest.
Delaware Gov. Jack Markell and last year’s winner Tonda Parks, vice president of advertising development for the Delaware State News, are among this year’s judges.
After the competition ended, the evening became a dance party for all guests.
