DOVER — ecarte dance theatre will present its winter concert at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Education/Humanities Theatre of Delaware State University.
The modern dance and contemporary ballet company will premiere eight works choreographed by artistic director Judith Engelgau and ballet mistress Tricia Massey.
Opening the evening will be “Something More Than Long”, a piece choreographed by Ms. Engelgau and Ms. Massey to the music of Stephen Schwartz, featuring the company’s young novices and apprentices.
“A Beautiful Glass”, with music by Sia, has been choreographed by Ms. Massey for the senior company. “Take It Down” delves into racial equality and is danced by ecarte’s novices and apprentices to the music of Nina Simone and Blake Shelton.
A piece set to the percussion music of Harry Partch, “Halcyon” explores the order within chaos. “Waiting” is danced by novices and apprentices to the soundtrack from the movie “Pan”. “Remembering the Stable” is a tribute work choreographed for the senior company to the music of Ari Hoenig and Marvin Hamlisch, taking its images from the poetry of W. H. Auden.
The performance concludes with two pieces choreographed by artistic director Judith Engelgau for the adult company. “Wilderness” is a more classical work, danced to the music of Aaron Copland, featuring company dancers Michelle Bryan, Melani Coles, Kim Haggard, Tricia Massey, and Lisa Scott.
A modern work that integrates the contemporary compositions of Beck, Bastille, and Andra Day, “Benediction for the Unforgiven” is danced by the senior company and apprentices Gabrielle Beish, Emma Hardy, Emma Massey, Ruby Rogers, and Akerah Winder.

Tickets, $15 adults, $10 students and senior citizens, may be purchased at the box office the evening of the performance. Group discount rates are available with prior request.
