Dover traffic stop yields drug, weapons charges against Wilmington man

DOVER — A Wilmington man is facing a 16-count indictment including alleged drug and weapons charges after investigation into a November 2015 traffic stop in Dover, according to court documents.

James Beavers was initially stopped on at 2:35 p.m. Nov. 17 in the area of Lincoln Street and Gibbs Drive, the Dover Police Department said when announcing the arrest.

According to authorities at the time, a vehicle search allegedly located 4.7 grams of marijuana, 78 bags of heroin (1.17 grams), a loaded .380 caliber handgun, a loaded/altered .22 long rifle, 19 oxycodone pills and various drug paraphernalia items.

Charges indicted by a Kent County grand jury included drug dealing, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, second-degree forgery, possession of a firearm and ammunition by person prohibited, aggravated possession, criminal impersonation, illegal possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to stop at a stop sign and driving without a license.

At the time of his arrest, Mr. Beavers’ address was listed as in the 400 block of South Claymont Street.

Deputy Attorney General Lindsay Taylor represented the Delaware Department of Justice in the indictment.
