DOVER — A Dover man is facing a first-degree attempted murder count after an indictment was returned Monday regarding an alleged 2015 shooting that wounded two people.
A Kent County Grand Jury also chose to indict Emory O. Cannon on a first-degree assault charge, two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by person prohibited. According to court documents, Mr. Cannon was previously convicted of second-degree assault in Superior Court on Jan. 30, 2012, the indictment said.
Deputy Attorney General Marie Graham signed the indictment for the Delaware Department of Justice.
According to the Delaware State Police when announcing Mr. Cannon’s arrest on Oct. 1, 2015, troopers responded to a shots fired report at approximately 1:50 p.m. in the unit block of Washington Place in the Capitol Park development. Mr, Cannon, 22 at the time, was taken into custody at a Wawa at 1450 Forest Avenue within two hours, authorities said.
Police said investigation found that the alleged sequence began with a verbal argument that eventually escalated; several gunshots ensued, authorities said, leaving a 31-year-old male and 41-year-old female wounded.
