Saleem Shabazz, left, and Matthew Harrington
DOVER — Two Pennsylvania men were indicted Monday on first-degree murder charges in connection with an alleged Oct. 17, 2015, shooting in the Rodney Village community that left two people dead.
According to court documents, Saleem M. Shabazz and Matthew Harrington also are facing home invasion, first-degree attempted robbery, first-degree burglary and second-degree assault charges after indictment by a Kent County grand jury.
The indictment said charges stemmed from an alleged incident in the 1400 block of John Clark Road. Clifton Leager, 52, of Dover, and Haley Henwood, 18, of Philadelphia, died from gunshot wounds, Delaware State Police said in a news release last fall.
Other charges include possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and first- and second-degree conspiracy, according to the indictment.
Police said Mr. Harrington was 23 at the time of the alleged shooting and Mr. Shabazz was 21. Mr. Shabazz was listed as a Philadelphia resident by state police, and Harrington was described as a Pennsylvania resident.
Deputy Attorneys General Jason Cohee and Ben Snyder signed the indictment for the Delaware Department of Justice.
After being arrested on Oct. 22, 2015, Mr. Shabazz was extradited from Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, on Nov. 3, authorities said, and Mr. Harrington turned himself in to the Buckingham Township Police Department in Pennsylvania on Oct. 18.
