WYOMING — Caesar Rodney School District Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey “Scott” Lykens recently announced he will retire effective Jan. 1.

Dr. Lykens has worked in the Caesar Rodney School District his entire 30-year education career. He began his career as a science teacher at Caesar Rodney High School. During his 14-year tenure at CRHS, Dr. Lykens would become Building Teacher of the Year, the 1999 District Teacher of the Year and assistant principal. He was also an assistant varsity and junior varsity football coach as well as an assistant coach for junior varsity wrestling and track.
Dr. Lykens moved to the district office in 1999 where he has since served as the Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction, Director of Curriculum and Instruction and as Assistant Superintendent.
Officials say that under Dr. Lykens’ leadership, the district and schools have developed and expanded its Dual Language immersion programs, received multiple National Blue Ribbon School awards, expanded the district’s Advanced Placement (AP) courses, pioneered “Blended Learning” and helped guide the district through the Delaware Comprehensive Assessment System (DCAS) and Smarter Balanced assessments.
“Dr. Lykens leaves us a lasting legacy and a strong foundation to build upon,” said Superintendent Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald.
“I personally want to thank Scott for all that he has done for the Caesar Rodney School District and wish him the best in his new endeavor.”
Dr. Lykens will begin working full time for the University of Delaware where he will be developing the university’s southern program at Delaware Technical and Community College’s Owens Campus and also teaching classes in January.
