DOVER — Delaware’s junior U.S. Sen. Chris Coons announced Tuesday he is supporting Hillary Rodham Clinton for president.
Delaware’s governor, senior senator and lone congressman, all Democrats, had already said they are supporting Ms. Clinton, the Democratic Party’s front runner.

In an interview with CNN’s “New Day,” the Wilmington Democrat said he would support the former U.S. senator and secretary of state.
He also told CNN he had been hoping Vice President Joe Biden would run for president but supported his decision not to.
Sen. Coons said about two weeks ago he was “inclined” to back Ms. Clinton. She is competing against Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley for the Democratic nomination.
“I first met Hillary Clinton 20 years ago through our shared interest in the ‘I Have a Dream’ program and its work to provide college access to disadvantaged young people,”” Sen. Coons said. “I’ve had conversations with her policy staff and with Hillary, and we have discussed our shared passion for college affordability, access and equity.
“I have also had the opportunity to work with Hillary during her service as secretary of state and know her strengths as a diplomat and an engaged advocate for America’s priorities around the world.
“Hillary Clinton has the vision and ideas we need to continue to rebuild our economy, expand our manufacturing base and open the doors of opportunity for all Americans. She has the experience to get the job done from day one.
“Her passion for the transformative power of education, her commitment to standing with American workers and her values-centered approach to the civil rights challenges we confront today make me proud to endorse her candidacy for president and committed to working with her throughout this campaign.”
