DOVER –– The Kent County Recreation Center is scheduled to open in early 2016 and an update by EDiS to Levy Court on Tuesday showed that everything is going according to schedule thus far.

Although the past week has been excessively rainy, there have been no weather-related problems at the construction site on new Burton Road in Dover because the drainage system was installed in late winter to prevent spring and summer rain from delaying the project.

All the building’s footers have been installed by J.W. Walker & Sons, Inc. along with the concrete slab for the concession stand. The concrete for the field house is in the process of being completed.

Permits to construct the permanent entrances to the facility have been approved by DelDOT and A-Del Construction has already graded the parking lots and has begun spreading the stone base to be paved.

Some early electrical work by H&A Electric, Co. is underway for the field house, concession stand, and maintenance building.

Steel for the structure is expected to arrive by Aug. 1 from Murphy Steel, Inc. and EDiS plans on having the structure totally roofed and enclosed by the end of the fall so winter weather will not complicate the completion of the interior.

EDiS will continue to provide the county with regular updates throughout the project.
