DOVER — Two high profile trials currently are scheduled to start on Nov. 30 in Kent County Superior Court.
Thomas W. Webster IV, 42, is facing a second-degree assault charge after a man allegedly was kicked unconscious by the Dover Police Department officer during an August 2013 pursuit.
His attorney has maintained Mr. Webster’s innocence regarding a sequence of events that was captured on a police dash cam video.
Mr. Webster was arrested and indicted on May 4, 2015, after an alleged offense on Aug. 24, 2013. A previous Kent County grand jury opted not to indict him before the matter was reviewed again by the Delaware Department of Justice.
Deputy Attorney General Mark Denney is prosecuting the case against Mr. Webster. Judge Ferris Wharton will oversee the proceedings.
Gerard T. Schweiger
Also, Gerard T. Schweiger, 27, has pleaded non guilty to first-degree perjury and second-degree conspiracy counts connected to a 2014 trial in which he was found not guilty of murder, but convicted on lesser offenses. He was arrested on March 31 and indicted on June 1 after an alleged offense on Aug. 27, 2014, according to court papers.
Mr. Schweiger is accused of bribing a man to testify on his behalf during proceedings involving the death of Leipsic resident Tony Mozick Jr. in January 2013. Mr. Schweiger’s co-defendant earlier pleaded guilty to charges connected to the alleged incident.
Brian Robertson is prosecuting the case for the Delaware Attorney General’s office, and Public Defender Eugene Maurer is representing Mr. Schweiger.
